Movies to Watch Out for in 2014

We love movies here at Nerdophiles. Everything from gargantuan blockbusters to subtle indie films and animated shorts. If it’s good, it’s good. Here are some movies that we here at Nerdophiles think you should keep an eye out for this year that you might not have heard about yet.

movie1

Lost River/How to Catch a Monster No trailer for this yet, but Ryan Goslings debut into filmmaking has us here at Nerdophiles very excited. With an electric cast including the Raggedy Man himself, Matt Smith along with Saoirse Ronan and Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks, Lost River/How to Catch a Monster has had critics murmuring since its debut at Cannes in May. It’ll be coming to a screen near you in October.

movie2

Suffragette – This looks like it is going to be a real Oscar contender next year. With Meryl Streep at the helm playing Emmeline Pankhurst, along with Carey Mulligan and Helena Bonham Carter, Suffragette tracks the story of the brave women of the early feminist movement. Written by Olivier award nominee Abi Morgan, and directed by up-and-comer Sarah Gavron, this movie is without a doubt going to be powerful. No release date as of yet, but we’re guessing this holiday season.

movie3

Foxcatcher – Do you hear that? That’s the distant rumblings of a possible Best Picture winner. Foxcatcher is the ‘shockingly true story’ of Mark Shultz, the olympic wrester who’s relationship with his mentor and brother leads to a rather macabre turn of events. With a cast that includes Mark Ruffalo, Steve Carell, Channing Tatum and Sienna Miller along with Moneyball director Bennett Miller, Foxcatcher certainly looks enthralling. It will be rumbling into theatres November 14th.

movie4

Trash – From the mind that brought us Blackadder and Love Actually comes another Oscar contender in the form of Trash. A story of three children in a third world country who discover something in a garbage dump that finds them on the run from the police. Trash certainly sounds interesting, and with a cast that includes The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’s Rooney Mara and Martin Sheen, it’s certainly caught our attention. It comes out this Halloween.

movie5

Gone Girl – Adapted for the screen by the author herself Gillian Flynn and directed by film giant David Fincher, Gone Girl is the story of Nick and Amy Dunne. After Amy goes missing a media circus engulfs Nick and leads to speculation over wether it was him that did it. With Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike as the leading couple and an already massive fan base who have read the book already, Gone Girl is set to be a real hit when it comes out in October.

Of course there are hundreds of films coming out this year, but these are just a handful that you may not have heard about yet but will. What films are you excited for this year? Let us know!
