Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D: T.A.H.I.T.I. Recap

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D: T.A.H.I.T.I. (1×14)

Summary: With Skye’s life hanging in the balance, Coulson recruits Agent Garrett (Bill Paxton) to help the team find the drug that brought Coulson back to life.

Rating: ★★★★★

I’m not going to do a full recap of this episode. This episode is worth watching and not having me spit it back to you. Because we’re getting into the good stuff here. Stuff that’s leading up to the next two movies beautifully.

Basically, everything that happens revolves around Skye and she doesn’t speak a single line throughout the episode. She manages to barely survive the surgery at the S.H.I.E.L.D. trauma center, but there was so much damage to her stomach and small intestine that she was put on life support. May’s reaction to this is to just wail on Quinn (which was wholly satisfying), but Coulson decides to go the route of how he was brought back from the dead. He has FitzSimmons look over the file that was given to him by Director Fury to try and parse together what could work for Skye.

Everything after that is magic. Suspenseful, suspenseful magic.

The team is joined by Agents Garrett and Triplett, who are initially sent to retrieve Ian Quinn, but work their way into staying on board to help Skye. Paxton is a magnificent hardass as Garrett and it makes me look forward to seeing him in future episodes. As for Triplett, I’m interested to see how Ward’s successor compares to him. I’m also already shipping him and his pretty face with Simmons like WHOA.

Also, can we talk about how AWESOME the Echo Chamber scene is? Because it’s pretty damn awesome and has some great visual effects. It was something I would have loved to have seen done in 3D because it it’s anything like how they do all of Tony Stark’s effects in 3D, it would be the prettiest digital layout in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As for the plot itself, it is intense and ready to go rolling into the end of the season. After some intense Paxton style interrogation, the team finds out from Quinn that he was ordered by the Clairvoyant to shoot Skye to make Coulson reveal how he came back. Because despite the Clairvoyant’s omniscience, he still doesn’t know how Coulson is alive after having his heart torn in two by the biggest little shit in all of the Nine Realms. If Skye is in a similar state, perhaps the Clairvoyant can get his answers.

This is the dilemma then: Save Skye and play into the Clairvoyant’s hand, or not reveal a damn thing and let Skye die.

Phil just decides to cross that bridge when he gets to it. Skye’s more important.

I’m going to leave it at that because the back half of the episode is a nail biter and left me screaming at my computer on multiple occasions. Especially one part that makes me believe that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is going to be essential on how Cosmic Marvel is introduced into the MCU. It’s worth a watch and I’m looking forward to where the results take us.

Expect the full screaming recap next week though, BECAUSE LADY SIF IS COMING TO MIDGARD.
