“The Knights of Badassdom” Will See the Light of Day After All!

Good news, everyone! It looks like we’re going to get to see the epic indie LARP film the Knights of Badassdom after all! This is really exciting news because this movie looks pretty freakin’ awesome.

Let’s do a quick run down, shall we?

Look at this flawless cast.

Look at this flawless cast.

The Knights of Badassdom stars Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), Ryan Kwanten (True Blood), Steve Zahn (National Treasure), Jimmie Simpson (Breakout Kings), Danny Pudi (Community), and Summer Glau (Firefly) as a group of live action roleplayers being their awesome nerdy selves. In the process of being awesome, though, they some how inadvertently manage to summon an actual demon succubus from the bowels of hell (played by Margarita Levieva – recently from the surprisingly popular show Revenge). The flim is billed as a “horror/comedy” so you can only imagine the sort of hi-jinks these people are going to manage to get themselves into as the story goes along.

But forget the story (which is actually quite reminiscent of a Supernatural episode from this past season).

Look at that cast! That’s the main reason I’ve been pulling for this movie to finally get released. I’ll watch anything with Peter Dinklage and Ryan Kwanten is undeniably hot. I don’t even watch True Blood but even I’ll admit that I’ve got a bit of a thing for that blonde asshole. And Danny Pudi is one of my favorite things about Community. So I’m more than excited to see this group of actors shoved into a world together.

For the longest time, though, it’s seemed like that we weren’t going to get the chance.

You go, not!Tyrion.

You go, not!Tyrion.

I’ll be honest, I don’t really pay that much attention to the indie film world. That’s not because I don’t care about indie films exactly. I’m just a slave to the summer blockbuster. But the Knights of Badassdom has been on my radar for the past few years. Announced back in 2010, the film has struggled to find a distributor and get itself released.  They started filming a year ago in July 2010 and information about the film has been a bit scarce ever since.

But the distribution rights were recently picked up by Entertainment One – at least they have been for here in North America. No word on the rest of the world yet. We don’t have a release date yet, either. The fact sheet we received on behalf of Entertainment One simply says: “The film will be distributed in the US day and date in theaters and via VOD.” So I guess we’re still waiting on that.

We’re still waiting to hear which version of this film we’re going to ultimately see in theatres, too. Will it be director Joe Lynch’s original masterpiece or the edited down version that was cut at some point during the search for a distributor? Time will tell.

I'm just saying that SOMEONE probably prayed to something to make this happen...
